Reflection

This term, we were each given a brief outlining what we were supposed to design for the project. The project focused on rebuilding a city that had been destroyed by fire, with each person assigned a building to redesign. In my case I was given the information and tourism centre. At the begging I was perplexed because I had no idea what to do or where to start from but one thing was for sure, I did not want to make curvy or free form design.  I wanted something with more angles and geometric shapes. After few weeks, I had two designs but couldn't decide which one to go with. I was not sure which design I could draw better, so I chose the design that looked more complexed and tried to draw more perspective of it to get a hold of the design and a better idea of what all the sides of the building would look like. After doing that I was not convinced with the design so I started to look up for more ideas and that is when I discovered Sol LeWitt which I got inspired by and came up with m...

Research: The Tourist Center of Anlong Limestone Resort

The Tourist Centre by 3andwich Design and He Wei Studio is an architectural project that blends with its natural surroundings while also providing both practical and visually attractive features for visitors. The Tourist Centre is located in a karst canyon of Dushan Town, Anlong County, Southwest Guizhou Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province in china(ArchDaily, 2017).  The buildings have glass walls that give a clear view on the canyon. This design enables visitors to view the landscape from inside the buildings which creates a connection between the built environment and nature. Inspired by this, in my design I included glass on the facade in order to allow the visitors to have a view on their surrounding especially on the forest on the east of the site  Tourist centre   The design of the centre emphasises harmony between the buildings and the natural environment, as well as between the buildings themselves. An elevated platform serves as a functional and defined space...

Final design boards

Today I completed my design boards as stated in the previous blog about design boards.  To complete my design boards I added pictures where necessary and to do that I clicked on file > open then I selected the image needed and clicked on select > all > edit > copy > paste  Then I added text, using the writing tool with the font " Myriad Pro" with a size of 10 pt  And repeated the same process for all the design boards  Here are the final outcomes:

3D Outcome process

In week 8 I finished my 3D model which I made from laser cutting. Laser cutting is a non-contact process which utilizes a laser to cut materials, resulting in high quality, dimensionally accurate cuts. The process works by directing the laser beam through a nozzle to the workpiece. A combination of heat and pressure creates the cutting action (AMADA WELD TECH, 2023) The first step was to use AutoCAD which is a software for 2D and 3D designs. I created the shape of the shapes needed based on what I did for the prototype. I started by creating the triangles which were 20cm x 10cm for the triangles on the front and 23cm x 10cm for the 3rd paragraph For the facade I divided the triangle in multiple part of each 1 cm with a 0.5 cm gap in between each of them Then for the roof and doors I used rectangle shapes. I drew rectangles of length 25.5 cm and width 4 cm After I had all my shapes in, I went to the 3D printing workshop to use the laser cutting machine. I connected my AutoCAD document t...

Design boards

In week 8  I started to look up the design of my design board  The first step was to go on Unsplash to find a background picture that I could use. After searching around, I chose this image After that, I went on photoshop where I opened a new document and chose the default photoshop size paper  Then the next step was to import the picture I downloaded from Unsplash, and to do that, I clicked on file > open > from computer and chose the image  After that, I imported my logo which I also used last term and removed the background from a background remover website on google and place it in the bottom right corner of the page  Then I added the name of my project and the title of the design board in the top left corner by clicking on the "T" on the tool bar and chose the size 24pt for the name of the project and 18pt for the title of the design board. I used the font " Lorem Ipsum" for both of them  I followed these steps for all the design boards and the f...

Website update

Today we updated our Wix website. To start, we navigated around the website to make sure that all buttons were functioning properly and as mine were, I did not need to change anything in that area To start I created, a new page for the new project and called it New Cromwell Discovery Centre  After that I changed my welcome page background in order to have a more recent work  And to finish, I changed my about me in order to have a more up to date page

Elevations and section drawings - procreate

An elevation plan gives a preview of how the completed building will appear. It visually depicts the outer sides of a building, showing its structural and architectural elements  (ultratechcement, 2021) . To make my elevations I used procreate and designed my front and rear elevations  FRONT ELEVATION  REAR ELEVATION For my section drawings, I also used procreate. Section drawings are useful to show the main volume of the buildings and the buildings components  FRONT SECTION  SIDE SECTION  Reference  ultratechcement (2021).
