Project Title: sustainable landscape playground in Zambia
Project Aims and Objectives: For my Architecture project I will design a playground park for families with children to enjoy fresh air in all security. The playground (elements) will use sustainable materials. the Park is located in Kitwe, Zambia because the city has only one playground for all the children which is not safe because it is always crowded and the weather is hot which will help the habitants to get fresh air. This project will be completed by the deadline given.
I will be researching the following Architects: Kunal Maniar, Carl Theodor Sorensen, Aldo Van Eyck
- Kunal Maniar, known for his eco-friendly landscape is a popular Indian architect who adopted the ideology of treating landscape more than nature to motivate himself and his firm to thrive for better and sustainable designs.
This project found a positive place in media and as a study for upcoming landscape architect
- Carl Theodor Sorensen is one of the most famous architect of his era. He worked on plenty of landscape projects and some on playground. He believed that playgrounds should reflect the imagination of the child and not of the architect.
- Aldo Van Eyck said " A city that has no room for the child is a diabolical thing"No architect has cared more about how children inhabit cities than Van Eyck, who in 30 or so years after the end of the second world war built more than 700 playgrounds across Amsterdam. ( The guardian, 2012)
I will be using the following Digital software: Sketchup
Research
1. what does an architectures’ design board look like? – see example below
2. The Architecture who inspires you
I love this playground because the games are perfectly incorporated in nature which benefits the environment.
Austin's pease park has been revitalised recently to integrate fun to nature. Ten Eyck landscape
architects collaborated with Clayton Korte and Mell Lawrence architects to revitalise the park a more ecologic place for people to enjoy their time while enjoying nature too.
3. Target audience
- age group: 3-10 years old
- gender: female and male
4. Mood board
5. Style of architecture
Sustainable Architecture_ can also be referred as green or environmental architecture. It aims to produce smart design with minimal negative effect on the ecosystem and communities.
6. Site plan analysis
- size of the site: 22.9 acres
- The orientation of the building: I should consider the flow of the air and design my project in a way that trees, flowers and vegetation will get the dust so that the children will have pure air. Because most of the areas in the Copperbelt (Kitwe) are exposed to dust residues from minerals.
7. Construction technologies and materials
Because I want to focus on an eco friendly and sustainable in the phase of construction I will use single direction plates or reversible plates, smooth drum rollers machine which use electricity as source of power, those machine will help me to compact the soil.
Because Zambia is a country where it rains a lot, the soil will have irrigation system because I am working on a eco-friendly and sustainable solution.
8. Environment
This playground is situated in Cape Town, South Africa which is similar to Kitwe because both have very hot weather and it gets really rainy in both regions. This playground is very sustainable because it uses natural materials such as wood.
9. form and function
The function is to o allow children to have a good time outside in a safe and sustainable place
