Final major project: Site plan analysis

Kitwe, city, northern Zambia, south-central Africa. It is the second largest city in Zambia and is the main industrial and commercial centre of the copper-belt region. Founded in 1936, Kitwe grew with the rapid development of copper mining, though secondary industries have also been established.Encyclopædia Britannica, no date)

As my project is happening in Zambia, the perfect spot to create a sustainable playground will be the freedom park for its location as it is accessible to everyone.

Freedom Park has a length of 2.43 kilometres

Latitude: -12°48'25.2"

Longitude: 28°12'51.48"

The park is find in city centre which is easy for everyone to access wherever they are coming from.

GEOLOGY

The Zambian Copperbelt is unusual among sediment-hosted stratiform copper districts in having abundant Co and low Ag, Zn, and Pb. The Cu-Co sulfide carrollite is widespread in the district, although cobalt is present in economic quantities in only some deposits on the western side of the district. Selley, D. et al. 2007). On the western limb of the Nkana Syncline, the Kitwe Formation is composed of argillites, quartzites and dolostones.

SOIL TYPOLOGY

Zambia has a wide range of soil typology such as Red clays, Barotes sands, Sanveldts soils, black clays, rock and rubble and many more. However the soils in the Copperbelt are highly weathered and strongly leached ferralsols.

VEGETATION

Despite being a mineral land, Kitwe also know as the Copperbelt has a wide variety of plants as part of its vegetation. Such as Mexican sunflower, Common lantana, false Christmas, Cactus lychee, cardboard cycad and guava.

HYDROGRAPHY

Zambia is drained by two major river basins: the Zambezi/Kafue basin in the centre, west and south covering about three-quarters of the country; and the Congo basin in the north covering about one-quarter of the country. A very small area in the northeast forms part of the internal drainage basin of Lake Rukwa in Tanzania (Geography, no date)

Comments

  1. Unfinished work that needs completing.
You have not created the finished design board. The objective was to complete this research, and then create a final design board.
You need to add your own comments here too. not just pictures.

Multi-faith centres and religious spaces

Multi-faith  centres are inclusive spaces that encourage dialogue, understanding, and collaboration among people from various religious backgrounds. They   provides a space where people of differing religious beliefs can spend time in contemplation or prayer  (Center for Architecture, 2023) .  These spaces promote diversity and unity through shared values and interfaith harmony. They provide a neutral setting for worship, dialogue, and community-building, contributing to inclusivity. The significance of these centres in promoting inclusivity and diversity lies in their celebration of diverse religious traditions and encouragement of interaction among different faiths. They also foster open dialogue to break down cultural and religious barriers through shared spaces and activities, as well as promote the idea that diversity is an asset by providing a space where all faiths are respected  (KAICIID, 2020).  Understanding diverse cultural and rel...

St. Moritz by john Pawson : Research

In this piece of research  will explore the St. Moritz church by John Pawson. I am writing about it because I am  gathering information for my architecture project which is a multi faith center and this church is one of my inspiration  St. Moritz church  St. Moritz Chapel, designed by John Pawson, is located in located in Augsburg, Germany. The artwork mirrors the peaceful beauty of the area and captures the interaction between nature and human influence in a harmonious manner. Pawson's minimalist style aligns with St. Moritz's cultural importance as a playground for the wealthy, combining modern simplicity with the traditional grace of the region. The piece embodies the attraction of this famous place, drawing from its special mix of sophistication and natural beauty. John Pawson is famous for his minimalist style, which emphasises simplicity, clarity, and a focus on the fundamental elements of design. The St. Moritz Chapel primarily uses white concrete, align...

Final major project: Form and function

The primary function of my project is to allow children to have a good time outside in a safe and sustainable place. Creating spaces that are in harmony with the environment, using eco-friendly materials, and promoting practices that help preserve our natural resources  Sustainable Playground I am creating this playground because in my city (Kitwe, Zambia) we have plenty of parks but people do not use them as they are not user-friendly and as a result they are not safe or maintained. The playground is located near city centre, where the vegetation is dense and will allow the users to have fresh air. Having a sustainable playground in Kitwe will allow the children of the community to engage together in a safe environment.          Reference         s.c, C.I.-S.
