Final major project: Style of Architecture

For this project I am using sustainable architecture which can also be referred as green or environmental architecture. It aims to produce smart design with minimal negative effect on the ecosystem and communities.

Some key aspects of sustainable architecture are:

1. Energy-efficient lighting fixtures and appliances

Passive Design is all about making the most of natural light, optimising ventilation, and using thermal mass to keep indoor temperatures just right, reducing the need of artificial heating or cooling. When it comes to lighting, it is all about energy efficiency such as LED or CFL bulbs and finding ways to let in natural daylight in order to use less artificial lighting. (Tobias, M. 2022)

2. Sustainable materials

Using recycled and reclaimed materials is a great way to help the environment and reduce waste. When we choose materials that are sourced locally, we not only support the local economy but also decrease transportation emissions. It's also important to consider using low-impact materials like bamboo, cork, or sustainably harvested wood, as they have minimal environmental impact.

3. Water conservation

In order to conserve water, it is recommended to install low-flow fixtures such as faucets, shower-heads, and toilets. This will help reduce water consumption. Another method is rainwater harvesting, which involves collecting and storing rainwater for non-potable uses like irrigation. This helps decrease the reliance on municipal water supplies. Outdoors, more indirect green building strategies such as smart landscaping (or xeriscaping - using plants that require no additional irrigation other than the expected annual rainfall in each location) can have large impacts on building site water use. (Morley, M. 2022)

4. Community and social consideration

Community engagement is important in the design process as it allows for the consideration of local needs and concerns.Additionally, efforts should be made to ensure that sustainable buildings are affordable and accessible to a wider range of individuals, in order to maintain a cleaner environment.

Eunine Fay Jones - Research

E. Fay Jones was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, USA on January 31, 1921. He spent his childhood in the rural Ozark Mountains, where he gained love for nature and the environment, which had an impact on his architectural designs later in life. After completing his studies at Rice University, he joined Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural practice, Taliesin Associated Architects, as an apprentice. He worked closely with Wright on several projects, including the renowned Taliesin West in Arizona (Compton, 2023). Fay Jones E. Fay Jones is famous for his natural architectural style, which includes integrating buildings with the environment, using materials like stone and wood, and incorporating geometric shapes inspired by nature. "Jones ignored architectural trends and instead focused on his own organic aesthetic with materials found in The Ozarks and familiar traditional forms from his home region"(mariathuroczy, 2013) .  One of his design that has inspired me for this project...

Multi-faith centres and religious spaces

Multi-faith  centres are inclusive spaces that encourage dialogue, understanding, and collaboration among people from various religious backgrounds. They   provides a space where people of differing religious beliefs can spend time in contemplation or prayer  (Center for Architecture, 2023) .  These spaces promote diversity and unity through shared values and interfaith harmony. They provide a neutral setting for worship, dialogue, and community-building, contributing to inclusivity. The significance of these centres in promoting inclusivity and diversity lies in their celebration of diverse religious traditions and encouragement of interaction among different faiths. They also foster open dialogue to break down cultural and religious barriers through shared spaces and activities, as well as promote the idea that diversity is an asset by providing a space where all faiths are respected  (KAICIID, 2020).  Understanding diverse cultural and rel...

Final major project: Digital software

For my project I will use SketchUp to help me achieve my final design. SketchUp is an easy 3D modelling programme . SketchUP landscape design SketchUp is a really handy software for landscape architects and designers who want to create playground designs. It has many useful features and advantages that are specifically designed to meet their requirements. Here are some reasons why SketchUp is a great option for for this task: 1. User friendly interface  The interface of SketchUp is well-known for being easy to use and understand. Beginners and professionals alike can easily navigate the workspace and utilise the simple tools. Even if you are new to it, you can quickly grasp the basics and start creating 3D models without any difficulties. 2. 3D modelling capabilities SketchUp is great at creating detailed 3D models. It helps designers visualise playground layouts, equipment, and landscaping elements in a realistic three-dimensional space. The software has precise modelling to...
