Final design and concept

Fusion faith centre, located in Kitwe, Zambia, is    multi-faith  centre which will be build with eco-friendly materials. It is positioned in the city centre, on the same site as my previous project, and aims to fill the gap of a multi-faith  centre in the small city of Kitwe and to connect the habitants of different background, culture and religion together . The design of Fusion Faith blends primitive styles with modern materials, creating a structure that still shows Zambia's architectural style. The implementation of the Faith Fusion Centre will take into account the existing trees and stream on the site, and will be adapted to Kitwe's climatic conditions.   Final design The design   of the multi-faith  centre features a circular building with designated areas for various religions, accompanied by a semi-circular structure around it. This semi-circular space will serves as common areas for users, encouraging inclusivity and shared experiences. I ch...

Demographics- research

Kitwe is a city situated in the Copperbelt Province of Zambia, known for its mining industry and vibrant cultural scene. It is a hub of economic activity and cultural diversity, providing a unique setting for the multi-faith centre project. Kitwe is home to a diverse population with various ethnicities, languages, and religious beliefs, making it an ideal location for a multi-faith centre that caters to a broad community.  It is important to conduct research on Kitwe in order to customise the design of the multi-faith  centre to local cultural, religious, and social dynamics, ensuring it goes along with the community's identity.  It will help me to ensures that the multi-faith  centre becomes a true reflection of Kitwe's collective identity while promoting inclusivity and catering to diverse religious and cultural backgrounds.     Kitwe's 2024 population is now estimated at 792,350. In 1950, the population of Kitwe was 45,887. Kitwe has grown by 29,3...

Multi-faith centres and religious spaces

Multi-faith  centres are inclusive spaces that encourage dialogue, understanding, and collaboration among people from various religious backgrounds. They   provides a space where people of differing religious beliefs can spend time in contemplation or prayer  (Center for Architecture, 2023) .  These spaces promote diversity and unity through shared values and interfaith harmony. They provide a neutral setting for worship, dialogue, and community-building, contributing to inclusivity. The significance of these centres in promoting inclusivity and diversity lies in their celebration of diverse religious traditions and encouragement of interaction among different faiths. They also foster open dialogue to break down cultural and religious barriers through shared spaces and activities, as well as promote the idea that diversity is an asset by providing a space where all faiths are respected  (KAICIID, 2020).  Understanding diverse cultural and rel...

Primitive influence

At first, I was focusing my project on industrialism, getting my inspiration from the metropolitan cathedral in Liverpool. However, during my research on multi-faith  centres, I became drawn to the theme of primitivism instead. This became my main theme for the project, and one of the structures that inspires me is the clochans found in Ireland, due to their history and shape. Beehive hut Clochans, which are ancient beehive huts made of dry-stone, can be found in County Kerry, Ireland, particularly on the Dingle Peninsula. These round buildings date back to the 8th-12th centuries and have corbelled stone roofs built without mortar, reflecting early Christian or prehistoric Irish architectural styles (Jones, 2022). Clochans are significant historically and culturally as they are remnants of early Christian communities. Used as residences, storage areas, or places of worship, they offer insights into the austere lifestyle of monks (Aalen, 1964). researching the ancient influence of c...

Two points perspective and concept drawing

Today we looked at concept drawing using two points perspectives. We were given a print out of an image which was a small residential house and were asked to reproduce it.  To start, we drew a strait horizontal line of 14 cm from the bottom of an A3 paper with a B pencil and a ruler. The second step was to make two marks at the end of the lines to create the left and right hand vanishing points. After this, we drew a vertical line of 15 cm from the left of the page to use it as the front corner of the construction. The fourth step was to draw one line from the top of the vertical line and another from the bottom to connect to the vanishing points. Then we drew two parallel perpendicular lines on both sides of the original vertical line to mark the ends of the construction. Following the image, we proceeded by adding the extending wall to the front of the building then we rubbed out any lines we no longer needed and looking at the image we added the windows and context in orde...
