Location

Kitwe, city, northern Zambia , south-central Africa. It is the main industrial and commercial centre of the copper-belt region ( Britannia, 2013)

The chosen location is Freedom Park, located in Kitwe, Copperbelt Province, Zambia. Spanning 12.8 acres (mypacer, 2023). The park is positioned in the city centre of Kitwe. Its central location is complemented by its proximity to the two malls of the city , the city's biggest hotel, and diverse restaurants, making it easily accessible.

I picked Freedom Park because of its large size and central location which makes it easy for everyone to access. Being in the centre of Kitwe means it is well-connected and accessible to people from all over the city, promoting inclusivity and community participation by allowing people from different backgrounds and areas to easily enjoy its recreational and community activities.

This location is where my first project was located. The project was to build a park for the community, providing a safe and enjoyable space for relaxation and fresh air. The connection between the park and the multi-faith centre is about creating spaces that prioritise inclusivity and community involvement. Both places are important hubs for the community, promoting inclusivity and contributing to the overall community development. By linking these elements together, this connection has the potential to bring people from different backgrounds together, fostering understanding and a stronger sense of community spirit.

Ideas Development - The Object lesson

For this task, we continued developing the initials idea we worked on last week to make them stronger. To do that we chose objects to help us expand our Ideas. The first step was to observe the object and answer questions such as "what does it make me think of" "does it have texture" " how can I adapt it to my initial idea". Then the second step was to write down all the associations with the object.  I chose two objects for this exercise which were a ceramic house and an old piece of wood.  The ceramic house displayed a visually textured yet smooth surface, embellished with vivid colours that produced a unique splashing effect. In contrast, the weathered piece of wood, aged and covered in a layer of sand, exhibited the enduring marks of time. I wrote down what these two objects made me think of and tried to develop my ideas based on them.
