Materials and sustainability

FERROCK

Ferrock is a sustainable building material that replaces cement and is made mostly from recycled waste materials. It is created from waste steel dust (which would normally be waste) and silica from ground-up glass, which when poured and upon reaction with carbon dioxide creates iron carbonate that binds carbon dioxide from the atmosphere into the Ferrock (Sefolo, 2021)

Ferrock is a good material for building a multi-faith centre in Zambia for several reasons which are firstly, its sustainable composition, as stated above it is made from recycled materials like steel dust and glass. This reduces waste and lessens carbon’s use. Secondly, Ferrock is a strong and durable material which makes it suitable for Zambia's climate which has high temperature and is prone to earthquakes. using ferrock will ensure a long life for the multifaith centre. Furthermore, Ferrock has thermal properties which will help maintain indoor temperatures, reducing the need for excessive heating or cooling systems. Overall, Ferrock's mix of environmental sustainability, durability and thermal properties makes it good choice for constructing a multi-faith centre in Zambia.

They also foster open dialogue to break down cultural and religious barriers through shared spaces and activities, as well as promote the idea that diversity is an asset by providing a space where all faiths are respected  (KAICIID, 2020).  Understanding diverse cultural and rel...
