Process of digital outcome - sketch up

Making my digital creation was quite a challenge. I used Sketchup and Procreate to develop my digital outcomes. In this blog, I will concentrate on the digital outcome using Sketchup.

Using SketchUp was quite challenging, even though I had used it in the first term for my project. The difficulty started from the round shape of my building, which made the design process more complex, requiring multiple restarts to achieve a good, perfect circle shape. The most challenging aspect of creating the model was constructing the dome, which involved experimenting with various tools and repeated restarts to achieve the final result. When finalising the project, I had to make adjustments to my design because certain features of the building were difficult, almost impossible, to add using the software.

I began my design by making a circle shape on the floor and then used the push-pull tool to elevate it into a 3D shape. After that, I created another circle and elevated it to form the fence. I drew two perpendicular lines in the inside of the fence using the pencil tool and removed the part in between the two lines to create the pathway.

After that, I used the "follow me" tool to create the semi circle behind the main building.

Then I made the Dome. To do that, I used the circle tool to form a circle on the base, used the 2 points arc tool to draw a line across the circle on the blue access and divided the arc in two equal parts before using the "follow me" tool to drag half of the arc around the circle to make the dome.

After the dome, I added windows and I tried several tools to make the arched door but as I was not able to achieve that, I changed the design of my door to two simple sliding doors.

Following that, I used the different tools to finalise my design and used the warehouse on the software to get the materials needed for the centre.

Eunine Fay Jones - Research

E. Fay Jones was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, USA on January 31, 1921. He spent his childhood in the rural Ozark Mountains, where he gained love for nature and the environment, which had an impact on his architectural designs later in life. After completing his studies at Rice University, he joined Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural practice, Taliesin Associated Architects, as an apprentice. He worked closely with Wright on several projects, including the renowned Taliesin West in Arizona (Compton, 2023). Fay Jones E. Fay Jones is famous for his natural architectural style, which includes integrating buildings with the environment, using materials like stone and wood, and incorporating geometric shapes inspired by nature. "Jones ignored architectural trends and instead focused on his own organic aesthetic with materials found in The Ozarks and familiar traditional forms from his home region"(mariathuroczy, 2013) .  One of his design that has inspired me for this project...

Final major project: Digital software

For my project I will use SketchUp to help me achieve my final design. SketchUp is an easy 3D modelling programme . SketchUP landscape design SketchUp is a really handy software for landscape architects and designers who want to create playground designs. It has many useful features and advantages that are specifically designed to meet their requirements. Here are some reasons why SketchUp is a great option for for this task: 1. User friendly interface  The interface of SketchUp is well-known for being easy to use and understand. Beginners and professionals alike can easily navigate the workspace and utilise the simple tools. Even if you are new to it, you can quickly grasp the basics and start creating 3D models without any difficulties. 2. 3D modelling capabilities SketchUp is great at creating detailed 3D models. It helps designers visualise playground layouts, equipment, and landscaping elements in a realistic three-dimensional space. The software has precise modelling to...

Ideas Development - The Object lesson

For this task, we continued developing the initials idea we worked on last week to make them stronger. To do that we chose objects to help us expand our Ideas. The first step was to observe the object and answer questions such as "what does it make me think of" "does it have texture" " how can I adapt it to my initial idea". Then the second step was to write down all the associations with the object.  I chose two objects for this exercise which were a ceramic house and an old piece of wood.  The ceramic house displayed a visually textured yet smooth surface, embellished with vivid colours that produced a unique splashing effect. In contrast, the weathered piece of wood, aged and covered in a layer of sand, exhibited the enduring marks of time. I wrote down what these two objects made me think of and tried to develop my ideas based on them.
