St. Moritz by john Pawson : Research

In this piece of research  will explore the St. Moritz church by John Pawson. I am writing about it because I am  gathering information for my architecture project which is a multi faith center and this church is one of my inspiration  St. Moritz church  St. Moritz Chapel, designed by John Pawson, is located in located in Augsburg, Germany. The artwork mirrors the peaceful beauty of the area and captures the interaction between nature and human influence in a harmonious manner. Pawson's minimalist style aligns with St. Moritz's cultural importance as a playground for the wealthy, combining modern simplicity with the traditional grace of the region. The piece embodies the attraction of this famous place, drawing from its special mix of sophistication and natural beauty. John Pawson is famous for his minimalist style, which emphasises simplicity, clarity, and a focus on the fundamental elements of design. The St. Moritz Chapel primarily uses white concrete, align...

Intial Resaerch

For my project I will design a multi faith centre based on the theme industrialism . For this project I got inspire by several architects which include Ando Tadao, Frederick Gibberd and John pawson  Tadoa Ando is one of my inspiration for this project because he designed multiple chapels and faith spaces in his career. For this project was parcticularly inspires me is his design of the church of light.  Located in Osaka, this iconic structure is one of the most famous architectures of Ando .  The interplay of natural light and the cross cut into the concrete wall is a testament to Ando's ability to create spiritual and contemplative spaces. Church of light  Frederick Gibbered is an inspiration as well because his work showcases the understanding  of the functional aspects of large-scale infrastructure and demonstrates his ability to work on both urban planning and individual buildings. The Liverpool Metropolitan cathedral perfectly these ability with its fu...

Art Portfolio 1: Project statement

For my AP1 project, I intend to produce six 2D outcomes including architectural concept drawing of a multi faith centre, elevations, site map along with a physical 3D representation of either the entire or one aspect of my building design. The centre is envisioned as a space for individuals of various religious backgrounds to engage in contemplation and prayer.  The main inspiration for my design is from the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral because of its creative use of materials, thoughtful spatial considerations, integration with surroundings, incorporation of cultural and religious symbolism, structural engineering challenges and the inclusion of sustainability features. I will on my project over the next six weeks. Utilising sketching and digital tools like Photoshop and Pixlar, I will develop the different side views of the multi faith centre. The 3D representation will incorporate materials such as Mount Board, foam-board, and easy to cut materials like lime wood or balsa. T...

Ideas Development - The Object lesson

For this task, we continued developing the initials idea we worked on last week to make them stronger. To do that we chose objects to help us expand our Ideas. The first step was to observe the object and answer questions such as "what does it make me think of" "does it have texture" " how can I adapt it to my initial idea". Then the second step was to write down all the associations with the object.  I chose two objects for this exercise which were a ceramic house and an old piece of wood.  The ceramic house displayed a visually textured yet smooth surface, embellished with vivid colours that produced a unique splashing effect. In contrast, the weathered piece of wood, aged and covered in a layer of sand, exhibited the enduring marks of time. I wrote down what these two objects made me think of and tried to develop my ideas based on them.

Initial ideas

After looking at the project brief and the theme, we generated some visual ideas for our respective projects in order to develop them later. The exercise consisted of folding a sheet of A3 paper and folding it into eight sections. After doing that, we spent two minutes making quick sketches for each section. After sketching these, we discussed with our partners to find out which of our sketches were better and chose ideas to develop further. This time, we used a sheet of A2 paper that we folded into eight sections as well, and we developed our chosen ideas. For my first idea to develop, I chose this sketch because of the feedback I got from my classmates and tutor, and I also thought it had some potential to be developed into something better.

First thought

For this term our projects will be based on 3 themes which are primitivism, pop out and industrialism.   Primitivism is a simple raw art that shows the early stage of the the world with no modern sophistication.  It values a basic and natural aesthetic. Including primitivism is crucial for architecture students as it offers insights into different design philosophies, encourages the use of natural materials, and fosters an appreciation for vernacular architecture. This knowledge will help me to enrich my skills, allowing me to create diverse, culturally sensitive, and sustainable designs influenced by various sources. Stonehenge Pop art is a simple art that uses bright colours to catch the eye of the viewer. This art can be incorporated in my project in order to give a lively aspect to it. As an architecture student, colours are important for every design because it plays a big role in the aesthetic and identity of the building. Happy Rizzi house  As an archite...

Welcome to Art Portfolio

Hello and welcome to the spring term! For the first task, we began with the creation of a welcome blog to  reflect on the recent break and to identify areas for improvement in the upcoming term. During the break, I visited various museums and exhibitions, but a particular highlight was my trip to Windsor to explore the castle. Built in 1070 and known for its Gothic architecture, Windsor Castle holds great historical significance. Touring its grounds was incredibly inspiring, as each part of the castle had stories to tell from centuries. Seeing a structure that has existed  for over a thousand years felt like stepping back in time.
